The Story Behind the Magic

About Nick Gasparro

How it started...

Nick Gasparro is a Chicago magician and mentalist specializing in close-up, walk-around entertainment for corporate events, private parties, and weddings across Chicagoland. For over two decades he has been performing professionally — reading people, bending reality, and leaving rooms buzzing — without a stage, a script, or any of the usual trappings of a “magic show.” What he does looks nothing like what most people expect. That’s the point.

His First Encounter With Magic

The Vanishing Silk

That changed everything...

Nick first encountered magic at age 11 on a family trip to Washington D.C., when he wandered into a small magic shop and watched a silk vanish and reappear in someone’s bare hands. He was immediately and permanently hooked.

Through middle school and high school his focus was almost entirely on close-up magic and sleight of hand. To him it was a “Moveable Feast” — something he could carry anywhere and share with anyone. That portable, intimate quality has defined his approach ever since.

Nick was fortunate to meet and learn from Eugene Burger, widely regarded as one of the most influential close-up magicians of the 20th century. Burger’s philosophy — that magic is fundamentally about the human experience of wonder, not tricks — shaped Nick’s entire approach. Nick has continued studying the psychology of influence and social dynamics, which forms the foundation of his mentalism work: reading body language, asking questions that feel impossibly precise, and creating the impression that he knows things he has no business knowing.

Over the years Nick has performed at hundreds of events across the Chicago area — corporate cocktail hours in the Loop, rehearsal dinners in Oak Brook, holiday parties in Naperville, fundraisers in Hinsdale, and wedding receptions from Schaumburg to Orland Park. The variety has made him a better performer. Every room is different. Every crowd reads differently. The material adapts.

From Champaign-Urbana

to Chicago's Lincoln Park...

Nick attended the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, where he sharpened his craft performing in bars and restaurants around campus — learning early that performing for strangers who didn’t ask to see a magic show is the best training there is.

After graduation he moved to Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and began performing regularly in the Lincoln Park and Gold Coast dining and bar scene. He has since relocated to the Naperville area and now performs full-time across Chicagoland: Chicago, Naperville, Oak Brook, Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, Wheaton, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Schaumburg, Orland Park, and beyond.

Nick works primarily with three types of clients. Corporate event planners booking cocktail hours, client appreciation dinners, and company holiday parties — where the goal is to get people talking to each other and actually enjoying themselves. Couples planning weddings who want cocktail hour entertainment that doesn’t feel like a sideshow. And private hosts throwing milestone birthdays, retirement parties, or dinner parties who want something their guests will still be talking about months later.

He has performed for groups ranging from 15 to 500+, in venues ranging from private homes to hotel ballrooms to corporate headquarters. He holds a 5.0 rating on WeddingWire and The Knot, and has appeared at events hosted by companies and organizations throughout the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

A Life Lived

with curiosity...

Nick has eclectic tastes and is deeply interested in art, music, and philosophy. When he’s not performing, you’ll likely find him playing guitar, hiking in Colorado, or spending an afternoon at the Art Institute of Chicago. He has a long-running interest in the psychology of perception — why people believe what they believe, and how attention and expectation shape experience. That intellectual curiosity is part of what makes his mentalism feel different from standard mind-reading acts. He’s genuinely interested in people, and that comes through.

Nick is based in the Naperville area and is available for events throughout the Chicago suburbs and the city.
